1st Owls at Night

1st Grade: Owls at Night

1st graders learned a lot about different kinds of line: straight, curvy, thick, thin, broken (dashed), zig zag, etc. Students identified the kinds of line in various pieces of art and then tried their hand at drawing different kinds of line on the white board.
Then, students created these (I think adorable) owls to showcase different kinds of line. I did a step-by-step of drawing an owl. Then, students repeated the steps to draw the "baby" owl. Students used oil pastel to draw a variety of lines onto their owls. Students used liquid watercolors to paint over the oil pastel. Students also tore brown construction paper to "build" a tree branch. Students drew, cut and glued on various leaves to finish their tree. Finally, students drew in moon and stars.

These are super colorful and showcase so many kinds of lines! Our 1st graders are very creative and had so much fun making their owl art work!
