Kinder Cities

Kinder: Cities

Kinder students learned about shape. We explored some shapes in the community, specifically on modes of transporation in a city. We looked at round tires on firetrucks, square windows on a school bus. We found a rectangle door on a city bus. We even noticed a dump truck with lots of squares. Shapes are all around us!
After viewing how transportation vehicles can be made up of basic shapes, students drew some of their own favorite modes of transportation. I had examples of some on large posters. Students drew firetrucks, police cars, dump trucks, buses, cars..even motorcycles! Students used Binney and Smith giant Staonel black crayons to draw 2 vehicles on white cardstock. (One vehicle on each half). Students added color with oil pastel. On the next day, students designed a street (using white oil pastel to draw dashes down the middle).

We also had a discussion about common buildings found in a town/city. Some of these were: schools, grocery stores, restaurants, offices, places of work, fire stations, libraries, movie theaters, etc. Students chose 2 of their favorite places and drew those in similar fashion to the vehicles. Students cut out their vehicles and places and glued them to a large construction paper. Students added details to their cities.

I do like the creativity I see here!
