3rd-Lighthouses with Tooling Foil

3rd Grade: Amazing Lighthouses

This is the 2nd time I've done tooling foil with students. Before we did Renaissance shields with 3rd and 4th. This time around, I wanted something slightly simpler, as this was the last project of the year for 3rd grade. Students explored the history of lighthouses and looked at some famous lighthouses, including the oldest lighthouse and the tallest. A few lighthouses were even built right in the ocean! Amazing! Lighthouses have many bold patterns and colors, making them a great piece of art, as well as, being practical. Students embossed a lighthouse design into the foil. They chose either a gold or silver side. Foil was placed on old magazines for correct embossing. Wooden styluses were used (the larger kind). Students then colored lighthouses with colored Sharpie markers. I love all the different shapes, designs, backgrounds and colored used. No 2 are alike at all!

Great job 3rd grade!!
