4th Grade Fall 2013

 4th Grade:
Magritte and Surrealism

4th Grade students studied Magritte and his surrealistic paintings. Students learned about why some artists make surrealistic art and different ways surrealism can be created.
For this art work, students drew game pieces (chess, Sorry pieces, and Monopoly). Students  created a sense of space and depth within the picture plane. Larger objects were drawn towards the bottom of the paper, smaller towards the top. We also studied values and creating form with values. Students implied a light source by choosing one side of their pieces to be in shadow.
To add to the surrealism element, students added manikins into their surrealism landscape.
